Red Spinel Tension-Style Ring • Natural Sri Lankan Spinel • Directly Sourced • Handmade • Solid Sterling Silver

Every piece begins with a stone worth noticing.

This red spinel was hand-selected and directly sourced in Sri Lanka. It's a one-of-a-kind stone, chosen for its intense, saturated red, the kind of colour long mistaken for the finest ruby. For centuries, some of the most celebrated "rubies" in royal collections turned out to be spinel.

The cut is a near-square cushion, not perfectly square, and that's part of its character. A stone cut to follow its own shape.

Handmade by me

I made this ring by hand in solid sterling silver, with a substantial, weighty band. The stone sits suspended between the two ends of the band, held in place by precisely cut seats, so light reaches it from every side.

A note on the setting

Traditional tension rings are made in very hard metals such as titanium or hardened gold, where the band itself acts as a spring. Silver is softer, so this is a tension-style setting: the stone is held in seats cut into each end of the band. It gives the same floating look, but it needs a little more care than a prong or bezel setting.

To keep the stone secure:
• Please don't resize the ring or have it adjusted by anyone else, as this can loosen the setting
• Avoid squeezing, bending or knocking the band

Care

Spinel is hard and durable (8 on the Mohs scale). The setting is what needs care, so follow the notes above. Remove the ring before exercise, lifting, cleaning or handwashing, and store it separately from harder jewellery. Silver may develop a natural patina over time; polish gently with a silver cloth.
